| | Surf, Shop, Cruise & Groove | Sunday, May 2, 2010 (1 day)
A new tour to explore the amazing history, sights and all-around good times to be had along the coast in two classic California locales –Oceanside and Carlsbad. We’ll first cruise historic Highway 101 from Oceanside to Carlsbad with a local step-on guide to learn about its history and local anecdotes of the area. Shortly after the turn of the twentieth century this road was crowded with wagons and primitive autos competing for space on its narrow, bumpy, unpredictable dirt surface. We’ll then wade into the California Surf Museum, which honors the history of surfing to enjoy a docent-guided tour. Enjoy an included lunch with choice of entrée and dessert at a classic café on the 101 which began its life as a small 20-seat diner in 1928. Today it offers a look back to the past as the oldest (and best) restaurant in Oceanside. While in Carlsbad we’ll sway to the music at the Museum of Making Music and embark on an interactive journey through 100 years of musical instrument innovations that helped shape American popular music. A docent-guided tour will showcase some of the 500 vintage instruments on display accompanied by hundreds of audio and video samples. To top off the day, time at your leisure at the Carlsbad Village Faire featuring over 850 unique vendors with a little of everything: arts & crafts, antiques, unique clothing, items from around the world and more. | |
