Experience the magic of fall foliage in New England! As you travel the back roads through Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine you’ll pass traditional white steeple churches, quaint villages, covered bridges and old whaling villages dotted with lighthouses and widows’ walks. This journey through five New England states highlights the landmark sites, historic homes, farms and nature’s dramatic shift in color as Autumn descends on this picturesque and historic region.

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Saturday, 10/6/2018 - Arrive in Boston
Our journey begins with optional transfers from home or our departure points this morning to LAX for a scheduled non-stop flight to Boston. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should arrive at Boston’s Logan Airport by 5 p.m. Our deluxe motorcoach will be waiting to transport us west to Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Here we’ll begin a two-night stay in the heart of this historic town which is a portrait of old New England charm.
Day 2
Sunday, 10/7/2018 - Sturbridge and Stockbridge
Following an included breakfast, we’ll spend the morning exploring Old Sturbridge Village, a re-created 1830’s rural community with more than 40 restored buildings. This living history museum depicts life in an early 19th century rural Village, featuring costumed historians, antique buildings, water-powered mills and a working farm. This afternoon we continue west into the Berkshires – the lush and beautiful rural, mountainous region of western Massachusetts which typically is awash in colorful leaves this time of year. In Stockbridge, we’ll enjoy time at leisure exploring the Norman Rockwell Museum featuring Rockwell’s original studio and the world’s largest collection of original Norman Rockwell art, including beloved paintings from the Saturday Evening Post. This will be a unique opportunity to experience Rockwell’s art, life and legacy in the artist’s picturesque New England hometown nestled in the culturally rich Berkshires. Enjoy time at leisure exploring the quintessential New England village of Stockbridge – Norman Rockwell immortalized this town in several paintings. After an included dinner at a locals’ favorite, we return to Sturbridge this evening.
Day 3
Monday, 10/8/2018 - Hartford and Vermont
After an included breakfast, we travel to Connecticut’s capital city of Hartford. Here, we’ll tour the Mark Twain House & Museum, Twain’s beloved homestead on Farmington Avenue. This Victorian Gothic masterpiece decorated by Louis Comfort Tiffany is where Mark Twain flourished as a writer, producing works including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Only steps down from the Mark Twain House, we’ll visit the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. While touring Stowe’s modest Victorian home we’ll gain insights into “the little lady who started the Civil War” (as Lincoln called her) by penning Uncle Tom’s Cabin. We continue north through the scenic Pioneer Valley to Rockingham, Vermont. Take a trip back in time at the world-famous Vermont Country Store. Home to “purveyors of the practical and hard-to-find,” this family run emporium harkens back to the general stores of bygone days. This evening we begin a two-night stay at a charming Vermont inn situated in the Jackson Gore Village. 
Day 4
Tuesday, 10/9/2018 - Vermont
After an included breakfast, we are joined by a local guide as we continue our search of vibrant colors amongst the Green Mountains of Vermont. In Manchester, we’ll tour Hildene, the summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln and his wife Mary Harlan Lincoln. This spectacular, 24-room, 1905 Georgian Revival mansion was the home to the only Lincoln descendants until 1975. This afternoon enjoy time at leisure in the charming village of Woodstock – home to one of Vermont’s iconic covered bridges. Later, we arrive at Billings Farm & Museum, regarded as one of the finest outdoor history museums in the country. Meet the Jersey dairy cows, draft horses and sheep, explore the 1890 Farm House, sample cheddar cheese and get a first-hand look at farming in turn-of-the-century New England. We return to our inn with the balance of the evening at leisure.
Day 5
Wednesday, 10/10/2018 - Vermont and New Hampshire
Following an included breakfast, we’ll travel to Quechee Gorge, known as Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon.” We continue to a Vermont family farm that specializes in cheddar cheese and maple syrup. Learn how the maple sap is drawn and converted into Vermont’s famous export and sample different grades of syrup and a variety of cheeses. This afternoon we continue to the magnificent White Mountains of New Hampshire. At Cannon Mountain we’ll board the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tram for a smooth, 7-minute ride to the summit for spectacular views of four states and Canada! We continue to the spectacular Omni Mount Washington Resort for an overnight stay. This National Historic Landmark that opened in 1902 is as grand as the history behind it. A favorite New England retreat of presidents, poets and celebrities, this hotel delights every sense with enchanting music, refined dining and luxurious décor. Enjoy an included tour and dinner at the hotel this evening.
Day 6
Thursday, 10/11/2018 - New Hampshire and Maine
After an included breakfast at the hotel, we travel east to Maine, traveling the scenic route through New Hampshire’s Crawford Notch. Enjoy an included lunch at a locals’ favorite in Portland Harbor before we enjoy a narrated “Lighthouse Lovers” cruise to see as many as four lighthouses including a close-up view of Maine’s oldest and most photographed lighthouse, Portland Head Light! Commissioned by George Washington and built in 1791 it makes for a fantastic photo opportunity! An included dinner this evening in Ogunquit before we arrive on Massachusetts’ North Shore and begin a two-night stay. 
Day 7
Friday, 10/12/2018 - Massachusetts' North Shore
Following an included breakfast we’ll depart the hotel and join a local guide for a driving tour of Marblehead and Salem. Hear the infamous story of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and learn of Salem’s illustrious role during the “Great Age of Sail.” Visit the Salem Witch Museum which examines one of the most enduring and emotional events in American History...the Witch Trials. We continue to Gloucester – America’s oldest fishing port and home to the Andrea Gale – the infamous fishing boat that went down in The Perfect Storm. See the Fisherman’s Memorial dedicated to Gloucester’s fisherman – “They that go down to the sea in ships.”  Then, a guided tour of Beauport Mansion, the National Historic Landmark perched on a rock ledge overlooking Gloucester Harbor. As you tour the mansion you’ll quickly realize that each of the 40 rooms is more visually stunning than the last. We continue to Bearskin Neck in the harbor town of Rockport with time at leisure to explore the boutiques and photograph Motif Number 1, a fishing shack known as “the most often-painted building in America.” Enjoy an included lobster dinner (alternative entrée available) this evening before we return to our hotel. 
Day 8
Saturday, 10/13/2018 - Boston and Farewell
After an included breakfast, we return to Boston where we’ll embark on a narrated Charles River cruise. Navigating between the cities of Boston and Cambridge, our cruise provides a unique perspective of both cities as you cruise past Beacon Hill, M.I.T., Harvard and countless sailboats and rowers. After time at leisure for lunch and browsing at Quincy Market we’ll join a local guide for a tour of Boston that will feature over 350 years of history highlighted by sites along the Freedom Trail including Boston Common, the Old State House and the Old North Church. Late this afternoon we’ll board our scheduled non-stop flight from Boston to Los Angeles. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should plan to depart the Boston Airport no earlier than 5 p.m. Upon arrival in Los Angeles, those passengers with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective drop-offs.
