On this unique land tour that includes Fairbanks, Anchorage and Denali National Park, you’ll travel aboard a train, riverboat, and motorcoach, while led by a local Alaskan at a time of year when the weather is most favorable. Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Monday, 8/6/2018 - Travel to Fairbanks
Optional transfers from home or our departure points this morning will have you at the Los Angeles International Airport for a connecting flight to Fairbanks, the largest city in Alaska’s interior. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, should arrive at the Fairbanks Airport by 8:00 p.m. if they want to be included on the complimentary meet and greet at the airport and included transfer from the airport to the hotel. After the short included transfer from the airport, you’ll meet your local tour director at your Fairbanks hotel and begin a two-night stay.
Day 2
Tuesday, 8/7/2018 - Fairbanks
Following an included breakfast, you’ll depart the hotel with your local Alaskan tour director who knows Alaska inside and out. Enjoy a narrated driving tour of Fairbanks – known to Alaskans as the “Golden Heart City.” Located near the confluence of the Tanana and Chena Rivers, Fairbanks is Alaska’s second largest city. Learn how the gold rush affected Alaska’s interior during a visit to the Museum of the North at the University of Alaska. Enjoy time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own in Fairbanks’ downtown area. This afternoon, board a sternwheeler for a 3-hour cruise on the Chena River to experience what life was like when traditional riverboats plied the waterways of Alaska’s interior during the late 1800’s. Enjoy an included, authentic salmon bake dinner this evening.

Day 3
Wednesday, 8/8/2018 - Denali National Park
Following an included breakfast, you’ll continue south by motorcoach into Denali National Park (elevation, 4,000 feet). Denali National Park & Preserve features North America’s highest mountain – 20,320-foot tall Mt. Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley) and is one of the world’s last unspoiled frontiers. The Park features a myriad of spectacular mountains and many large glaciers. Enjoy the afternoon exploring this pristine area by participating in a complimentary park service activity or an optional excursion available for additional fees. Optional excursions include white water rafting or a scenic float trip, an ATV wilderness adventure, flight-seeing Mt. Denali aboard either a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft, fly fishing, a Denali wilderness walking tour with a naturalist, a Denali bike tour, a Denali photo tour or visit Husky Homestead, home of Iditarod Champion Jeff King to get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship Iditarod team and carving a life in Alaska’s Interior. Note that all optional excursions are subject to change and all excursions may not be available. All bookings/payments are made with your tour director while on tour. Late this afternoon, arrive at your resort located at the entrance to Denali National Park to begin a two-night stay. This evening, an optional dinner show is available. This rollicking musical comedy is performed nightly in a rustic camp house reminiscent of the gold rush era.

Thursday, 8/9/2018 - Denali National Park
Following an included breakfast you’ll travel deep into Denali National Park on a “Tundra Wilderness Tour” that takes you deep into the wilds of Denali National Park, a six-million-acre UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Traveling through forest and alpine tundra and over high mountain passes, you may see moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolves and grizzly bears and, depending on weather and visibility, awe-inspiring Denali itself – North America’s highest peak at 20,310 feet. This 6-8 hour narrated journey provides an incredible insight into the animals, flora and fauna. Return to the resort in the late afternoon with the balance of the evening at leisure.

Friday, 8/10/2018 - Alaska Railroad
After an included breakfast, continue south by motorcoach. Enjoy time at leisure for browsing and lunch on your own in the quaint town of Talkeetna. The downtown area is classified as a National Historic Site, with buildings dating from the early 1900s. This afternoon, board deluxe railcars on the world-famous, Alaska Railroad and enjoy a 3-hour rail journey through some of the most scenic and rugged territory in Alaska to Anchorage. Just south of Talkeetna keep your eyes open for a glimpse of the majestic Mt. Denali or black bears along the banks of the Susitna River. Later the train crosses the Knik River with the Chugach Mountains as a backdrop. This evening, begin a two-night stay at a hotel in downtown Anchorage.

Saturday, 8/11/2018 - Anchorage
Following an included breakfast this morning, enjoy a driving tour of Anchorage including the historic downtown district. Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city and a surprising metropolis. The town was originally settled in 1915 at the mouth of Ship Creek to support railroad construction. Anchorage has grown steadily to become the business, cultural and distribution epicenter of Alaska. Nowadays nearly half of Alaska’s 600,000 residents live in Anchorage. Later, you’ll arrive at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, a gathering place that celebrates, perpetuates and shares Alaska Native cultures. This evening, enjoy an included farewell dinner and share tales from the road with your traveling companions.

Sunday, 8/12/2018 - Journey Home
Your Alaska tour comes to an end with an included transfer to the Anchorage Airport and a return flight to Los Angeles. Those passengers not taking advantage of the optional group air, may depart the Anchorage Airport at any time today. Those with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective drop-off destinations. You’ll always remember the incredible history, memorable sites and stunning scenery experienced on this Alaskan adventure.
