| Built by J. Paul Getty and modeled after a Roman villa, the Getty Villa is a gorgeous estate perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Malibu. After nine years and a cost of $275 million, this museum reopened in 2006 as the home to the Getty’s Antiquities Collection – the only museum in the United States dedicated solely to antiquities from the Mediterranean region. Twelve hundred Greek, Roman and Etruscan artifacts from 6500 B.C. to A.D. 600 are on display. The exquisite setting of Roman-inspired architecture and gardens and ocean breezes makes for a spectacular Summer day. Your visit to the Getty includes an audio tour headset rental. Lunch on your own at the Villa’s café offering a variety of sandwich, salad and hot entrée selections. |
