Go “behind-the-scenes” on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and discover the incredible wealth of geologic, oceanic and historic sites in this incredibly beautiful coastal region. At the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro, learn about the area’s marine habitat. At Machado Lake learn about “Reggie” the alligator who gained fame here in 2005 by eluding wranglers from as far away as Florida and Colorado. See the Walteria Lake Beds and learn how what was once a lake in the 1950s now supports hundreds of residential and industrial buildings. Examine beach sands to discover their magnetic properties and see how homes were built on sand dunes. Learn how ocean wave patterns and active landslides influence high-end property values. Also visit Fort MacArthur, a U.S. Army post which guarded the Peninsula and the L.A. Harbor from 1914 to 1974. A picnic lunch will be provided at scenic Point Fermin.
