Experience the magic of fall foliage in New England! As you travel the back roads through Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine you’ll visit charming towns with traditional white steeple churches and covered bridges, along with old whaling villages dotted with lighthouses and widow’s walks. This journey at the prime time for leaf-peeping features landmark sights, natural wonders, unique experiences and nature’s dramatic shift in color as autumn descends on this historic and picturesque region.

  • Extensive sightseeing with local guides through the Green Mountains of Vermont, the White Mountains and Lakes Region of New Hampshire and coastal Maine at the time of year when fall foliage is most likely 
  • Visit Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, a 24-room, 1905 Georgian Revival mansion that was Robert Todd Lincoln’s summer home 
  • Stay two nights at a premier Killington, Vermont resort with sightseeing to include the Vermont Country Store, a Vermont sugar house, President Calvin Coolidge Historic Site, Quechee Gorge and Woodstock 
  • Explore New Hampshire’s Lakes Region including a ride on the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, and a cruise on Squam Lake that was featured in the film, On Golden Pond 
  • Stay two nights in Ogunquit, Maine with sightseeing to include Portland, Kennebunk- port, Freeport, a lobstering cruise, a visit to two lighthouses and a lobster lunch

Day By Day Itinerary:
Day 1
Monday, 10/3/2022 - Welcome to Massachusetts!
Optional transfers from our departure points will have us at the Los Angeles International Airport this morning for a scheduled, non-stop flight arriving in Boston this afternoon. Those guests making their own flight arrangements can request the group’s flight schedule to coordinate a flight arrival time that would allow them to be included on the complimentary transfer to the hotel. We’ll board our deluxe motorcoach and travel west to Sturbridge, Massachusetts where we’ll enjoy an overnight stay at a charming inn. Meet your fellow travelers at an included welcome dinner at a locals’ favorite.  

Day 2
Tuesday, 10/4/2022 - Massachusetts, Vermont
After an included breakfast, we’ll travel north through the scenic Pioneer Valley to Vermont. While Vermont shines in just about every season, autumn is extra special as the mountains and forests are normally awash in reds, oranges and yellows – welcome to the fall foliage capital of the world! Enjoy an included lunch and self-guided tour at Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home. This spectacular, 24-room, 1905 Georgian Revival mansion was once the summer estate of Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son of Abraham and Mary Lincoln. The 412-acre estate features a Georgian revival mansion, formal garden, observatory and 1903 Pullman car. We’ll visit the Vermont Country Store, the family-run emporium that harkens back to the general stores of bygone days. This evening we arrive in Killington, Vermont and begin a two-night stay at a premier mountain resort.  
Day 3
Wednesday, 10/5/2022 - Vermont
Following an included breakfast, we’ll be joined by a local guide for a full day of sightseeing along the back roads of Vermont. We’ll visit a true Vermont sugar house and learn how Vermont maple sap is drawn and converted into Vermont’s most popular export. We continue to Plymouth Notch and experience one of America’s best-preserved presidential birth sites at President Calvin Coolidge Historic Site. This charming village which is virtually unchanged since the 1920s and features a number of historic buildings including the home where President Coolidge was born, the family homestead where Coolidge took the presidential oath of office, the wood-paneled church where the Coolidge family worshipped and the humble grave site where President Coolidge is laid to rest. This afternoon we’ll enjoy time at leisure in the quintessential New England town of Woodstock – home to one of Vermont’s iconic covered bridges. We’ll visit Quechee Gorge, known as Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon” before an included dinner at a locals’ favorite this evening.
Day 4
Thursday, 10/6/2022 - Vermont, New Hampshire’s Lakes Region 
After an included breakfast we’ll be joined by a local guide as we travel east into the “Granite State” of New Hampshire. We’ll see the amazingly clear water, rocky shores, celebrated islands, historic homes, scenic mountain views and remarkable wildlife on a narrated cruise on Squam Lake – the lake featured in the movie, On Golden Pond. At the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, we’ll be joined by a naturalist as we learn about native wildlife, their habitats and how they survive. Then it’s all aboard the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad to enjoy delicious roasted turkey dinner as we travel along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Overnight in the Lakes Region. 
Day 5
Friday, 10/7/2022 - White Mountains of New Hampshire, Maine
Following an included breakfast, we’ll travel into the White Mountains of New Hampshire and continue east along Kancamagus Highway, a National Scenic Byway considered one of the best fall foliage viewing areas in the world! This afternoon we’ll arrive in the charming town of Kennebunkport, Maine and enjoy time at leisure exploring the quaint boutiques and local craft shops in Dock Square. Enjoy a scenic lobstering cruise past Walker’s Point Estate (the Bush family compound) and the Collinwood Mansion (featured in Dark Shadows) and see how lobster traps are hauled from the ocean. A local guide will provide a driving tour past sea captain mansions, sandy beaches and the rocky coastline as we learn the history of this shipbuilding town and the legend of the Wedding Cake House. We’ll visit St. Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery Estate, featuring English-style gardens and outdoor chapels. Later we arrive in the seaside town of Ogunquit, a quintessential New England port of tranquil coves and beaches. We’ll begin a two-night stay at a resort adjacent to the Marginal Way, an accessible shoreline walking path. Enjoy an included dinner at the resort.  
Day 6
Saturday, 10/8/2022 - Portland, Maine
After an included breakfast we’ll be joined by a local guide and travel north to Portland, Maine. On a driving tour through Portland’s historic neighborhoods, we’ll see Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s boyhood home, sea captain houses and the elegant Victoria Mansion. Visit the iconic Portland Head Light – commissioned by George Washington, it is the oldest lighthouse in Maine and the most photographed lighthouse in the U.S.! We continue to Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse where we’ll tour this real, working lighthouse – the only caisson-style light station in the United States. Enjoy an included lobster lunch (alternative entree available) at a locals’ favorite before we continue north to Freeport with time at leisure to explore this charming town that is home to the L.L. Bean Flagship Store, outlet stores and boutiques. We return to Ogunquit this evening. 
Day 7
Sunday, 10/9/2022 - Boston, Journey Home 
After an included breakfast, we’ll travel south and be joined by a local guide for a driving tour of Boston. We’ll follow in the footsteps of American history as we visit historic sights along the Freedom Trail, Boston Common, Public Garden and travel through Boston neighborhoods like Back Bay and Beacon Hill. This afternoon we arrive at Boston Logan International Airport for our sched- uled non-stop flight to Los Angeles. Those guests making their own flight arrangements can request the group’s flight schedule to coordinate a flight departure time that would allow them to be included on the complimentary transfer to the airport. Back in Los Angeles, those guests with pre-arranged transfers will be returned to their respective destinations.
