On this unique “fountain adventure,” we’ll “go with the flow” and discover a variety of fascinating, artistic, and historically significant fountains in and around Los Angeles. Our professional L.A. step-on guide, Curt is a ‘fount’ of knowledge and will entertain us with noteworthy, amusing and surprising stories about each one. From the inspiration behind their creation and design to their construction and their survival, each fountain has a unique story to tell. Some of the fabulous fountains include a floating teapot, a touching 9/11 memorial, American youth rising above the waves, spitting swans and a lost fountain rediscovered. While they come in all shapes and sizes – sometimes just a slight trickle to a cascading flow to a gushing geyser – what they all have in common is each brings life and energy to its surroundings and those that encounter them. But this tour isn’t just fountains! Along the way, we’ll enjoy an included fried chicken lunch with sides including their famous cheese bread at Clearman’s Galley, the historic restaurant housed in ‘The Boat.’ What started out as a mail-service vessel serving ports between San Francisco and Alaska, the boat was purchased and renovated by John Clearman and then rechristened and permanently anchored on Huntington Drive in San Gabriel. Be sure to leave room for dessert as we’ll top off the day and “get our licks on Route 66” at another historic landmark – the Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain. This charming establishment situated on the famous “Route 66,” has been serving their famous root beer floats featuring a softball sized scoop of vanilla ice cream since 1915. Featuring oak doors, embossed glass, marble counters, tin ceilings, honeycomb tile floors and original period soda fountain equipment, this is a true blast from the past! Take a step back in time in the Pharmacy’s gift shop full of authentic tin toys, old-fashioned candies, gag gifts, candles, jewelry and other novelty items that will transport you back to a simpler time. |
